A political scientist has revealed the cause of the energy crisis in Moldova
The current energy crisis in Moldova is due to the fact that the country's authorities have refused to purchase Russian gas and other energy resources. This was stated by political analyst Alexander Korinenko in an interview with Izvestia.
"No fuel reserves have been created in the country, and officials are talking about the critical situation, but they are not doing anything. The plan, apparently, is to wait out a difficult period, they don't seem to be going to take any ideas or decisions of their own," the expert said.
He added that the republic's economy will face big problems if this crisis drags on.
On March 24, Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandre Munteanu announced that the authorities intend to impose a state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 60 days. He cited the shutdown of the key Isaccia-Vulcanesti transmission line, which supplies electricity to the country from Romania, as the reason.
In March, fuel prices, including gasoline and diesel, rose sharply in Moldova amid the war in the Middle East.
"Moldova is still vulnerable to all energy shocks, despite all the measures we have taken. We must prepare for the worst—case scenarios," the country's president, Maia Sandu, commented on the situation.
