Former circus performer Evgeny Chernov was arrested in connection with the deaths of people in a fire in the center of Moscow. This was announced on March 24 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the hall of the Tagansky District Court.
The man will remain in custody until May 23. On the same day, the Main Investigation Department (GSU) of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in Moscow reported that Chernov fully admitted his guilt.
According to the investigation, the cause of the incident was careless handling of fire. During the interrogation, the detainee explained that he had been smoking in his apartment, after which the chair caught fire because of the fallen ashes.
A fire in an apartment building on Nikoloyamskaya Street in Moscow became known on March 23. As a result of the incident, four people were killed and five others were injured. According to eyewitnesses, the smoke was seen around four in the morning. Law enforcement agencies detained Chernov on suspicion of involvement in the fire.
