- The Cabinet of Ministers of Sri Lanka announced the start of negotiations with the Russian Federation on oil supplies
Sri Lanka has begun negotiations at the government level with Russia on the possible export of oil from this country. This was announced on March 24 by Nalinda Jayatissa, a representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of the island state.
"Negotiations with Russia are underway at the government level, but we have not been able to secure oil supplies from Russia before. However, we are making efforts to check whether this is possible through intergovernmental agreements," the Adaderana online platform quotes him as saying.
At the same time, Mikhail Rogov, a spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission, told TASS that the start of negotiations on oil supplies from Russia to Sri Lanka is scheduled for March 26 in Colombo.
Rogov reported on March 13 that the Sri Lankan authorities had asked the Russian Federation to consider the possibility of supplying them with energy resources. The petition of the representatives of the island state was submitted to Moscow for consideration.
The republic's Ambassador to Russia, Shobini Gunasekera, announced the holding of interstate negotiations on regular oil supplies. According to her, the talks also touch upon the topics of LNG supply to the republic and the modernization of the oil refinery located on its territory.
