About 80% of Russians consider car trips as a way to travel in 2026. According to the results of the survey, this is reported in the joint study "Auto.<url>" and "Yandex Travel", which was reviewed by Izvestia. 40% of the respondents plan to increase the number of car trips compared to 2025. Among those who plan car trips, more than half are going to take their children with them.

Most often they go on road trips with a partner (45%) or with family and children (56%). 11% of the respondents travel alone, and 15% travel with friends. Over the past year, 69% of respondents have traveled by car. For many tourists, the frequency of such trips remains generally stable (65%), but interest is gradually growing — some Russians (16%) began to drive more often than a year earlier.

Respondents cite the flexibility of the trip and the freedom of the route as the main reason for choosing a car for travel, 59% of the survey participants answered. In second place is the opportunity to take more things (40%). Independence from train and plane schedules (35%) and easier travel planning in Russia (34%) were also important factors. Most often, Russians choose short car trips. Almost 59% of the respondents went on weekend trips lasting two to three days. Another 40% made trips lasting from four to seven days.

According to the study, Russians have become 10% more likely to book parking facilities, and the use of the Parking filter in the travel aggregator service when searching for housing has tripled year-on-year. Russians often go on a road trip together and stay for two nights. The average cost of accommodation in hotels with parking is 7 thousand rubles per night. The demand for housing with parking spaces is growing primarily in regions with developed domestic tourism and car accessibility. Among the leaders in the share of bookings are Moscow and the Moscow Region (22% of the total number of bookings), Krasnodar Territory (17%), St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region (13%).

"The high proportion of those planning trips and those who want to travel more often suggests that autotourism has already become established as a familiar way of traveling and has the potential for further growth — not only due to new car travelers, but also due to an increase in the frequency of trips," the study says.

Earlier, on March 23, it was reported that Kaliningrad became the most popular destination for travel in Russia in April, and Istanbul is the leader among foreign routes.
