Concrete work has begun on the construction site of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan during the construction of a power unit with a RITM-200H reactor. This was announced on March 24 by the press service of the Rosatom State Corporation.

The work was started by Pavel Bezrukov, Vice President and Director of the Atomic Power Plant construction project in the Republic of Uzbekistan Atomstroyexport, and Abdizhamil Kalmuratov, Head of the NPP Construction Directorate. About 900 cubic meters of concrete mix will be poured under the reactor building during construction. Subsequently, the base will be leveled under the foundation, waterproofing will be carried out and grounding will be done.

"The supplier [of concrete] is a local contractor. <...> Accordingly, it issues a certified mixture according to all selection maps that have been tested at this site," explained Alexey Yakhin, Chief engineer of Atomstroyexport.

He added that the work on the "pouring" of concrete is planned to be completed by April 6 this year. The construction of the nuclear power plant itself will begin in the summer. In anticipation of this process, the builders received permission to use the site to accommodate two power units with two RITM-200N reactor units.

At the same time as the start of concrete work in Tashkent, a roadmap for cooperation in nuclear and related fields was signed between Rosatom and the Uzatom agency. In addition, the parties signed an additional agreement to the contract for the construction of the station.

"The signing of the roadmap and the agreement on the integrated nuclear power plant, as well as the subsequent concrete work on the site, mark Uzbekistan's entry into the vanguard of the global nuclear energy industry. The country is launching a unique project that will contribute to socio-economic growth and strengthen technological sovereignty for decades," explained Alexey Likhachev, Director of Rosatom.

According to the document, the parties will jointly train personnel for nuclear energy and educate the population about the industry. Rosatom and Uzatom will also create an atomic city near the nuclear power plant.

Last November, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid special attention to cooperation in the energy sector. It was noted that the leaders discussed interregional cooperation in strengthening trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
