Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi allegedly said during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff that Iran's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei had agreed to talks with the United States. This was reported by Ynet on March 24, citing a source.

An Iranian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Khamenei allegedly made it clear that he "approved the speedy completion of this story if our conditions are met."

The publication claims that after Trump announced the talks with Tehran, the Iranian side hastened to refute them, as it was allegedly surprised by the "rapid disclosure of information."

Washington has announced constructive talks with Tehran, although the Islamic Republic denies them.

US President Donald Trump announced on March 23 that the US military would temporarily suspend strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure amid talks between Washington and Tehran. He also said that the United States and Iran had held two days of fruitful negotiations to resolve the conflict.

On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly denied the information about the alleged negotiations. According to the ministry, peace initiatives come only from the countries of the Middle East, and the statements of the American leader are an attempt to "buy time" for a military operation.
