Experts expressed doubts about the real start of negotiations between the United States and Iran

Against the background of contradictory statements in the United States and Iran regarding contacts on the settlement of the military conflict in the Middle East, experts doubt the start of negotiations and note the lack of prerequisites for the resumption of the diplomatic process. This was reported on March 24 by the French newspaper Le Monde.

"There are no negotiations," a senior adviser to the president of the International Crisis Group told the newspaper Ali Vaez.

The experts interviewed identified a number of reasons complicating the resumption of diplomatic contacts between the two countries. They include the strategy of the United States and Israel to "decapitate" the ruling regime in Tehran, which has led to a narrowing of the list of potential negotiators among senior Iranian officials.

Camille Launce, a researcher at the European Council on Foreign Relations, also noted the growing distrust of Washington's diplomatic steps, which repeatedly launched military actions in the midst of the negotiation process. According to John Fortier, an expert at the American Enterprise Institute, American leader Donald Trump is not yet under pressure from his supporters, which could push him to de-escalate.

"The longer this case drags on, the more likely it is that it will become a problem for Donald Trump. Either because the war will lead to such chaos that the United States will have to regularly intervene in Iran's affairs, or because its voters will suffer for a long time from the economic consequences, and in particular from rising gasoline prices. But so far this is not the case," Fortier added.

At the same time, despite the outbreak of hostilities, none of the warring parties was able to force the rival to change its position on fundamental issues. Washington continues to demand that Iran abandon uranium enrichment, while Tehran refuses and demands the lifting of international sanctions, payment of war reparations and guarantees of non-aggression.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that the Iranian authorities remained open to negotiations until the US-Israeli military operation began. According to him, Iran has demonstrated its readiness for dialogue, and the negotiations have been quite successful.

Trump said yesterday that the US military would temporarily suspend strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure amid talks between Washington and Tehran. He also said that the United States and Iran had held two days of fruitful negotiations to resolve the conflict.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry, in turn, strongly denied the information about the alleged negotiations. According to the ministry, peace initiatives come only from the countries of the Middle East, and the statements of the American leader are an attempt to "buy time" for a military operation.
