Diamonds and jewelry worth 2.2 million rubles were found in a landfill in Poland.
In the Polish city of Wodzislaw Śląski, a decision was made to cancel an auction at which it was planned to sell jewelry and diamonds found in a municipal landfill. This was announced on March 24 by TVP World channel.
The auction, scheduled for March 27, was stopped after the intervention of the local museum, whose representatives considered the find an object of cultural and historical heritage.
Museum Director Slavomir Kulpa stressed that the decorations dating back to the first half of the 20th century are unique to the city.
"Representatives of the museum claim that the objects represent cultural heritage and may have historical value," the cultural institution said.
According to Kulpa, these objects are "priceless" as they are rare surviving evidence of Vodzislaw-Slenski's past.
The treasure was discovered at a landfill in 2023. Experts recognized a three-carat gold diamond ring as the most expensive lot: its estimated value is 95 thousand zlotys (approximately 2 million rubles). The remaining precious stones were estimated at a total of 9 thousand zlotys (about 200 thousand rubles).
The Associated Press (AP) agency, citing sources, reported on January 18 that the largest sapphire in the world was found in Sri Lanka. Consultant gemologist Ashan Amarasinghe estimated the value of the stone at $300-400 million.
