The traditional Murmansk Ski Marathon, which was scheduled to take place on March 28-29 as part of the 91st Holiday of the North, had to be canceled due to an early thaw. This was announced on March 24 by the Ministry of Sports of the Murmansk region in its Telegram channel.

"The 91st International traditional Festival of the North continues, but significant changes have been made to its program. Due to the abnormally warm weather and the deterioration of the track, the Organizing Committee decided to cancel the 52nd Murmansk Ski Marathon," the statement said.

It is specified that the route has a difficult terrain, includes steep descents and turns. Due to the sudden warming, thawed patches and streams appeared on it. The agency added that during the inspection of the ski track, experts concluded that the route did not meet safety requirements. The message emphasized that holding competitions can lead to accidents.

In addition, the ministry warned that the marathon in 2027 will be held earlier — on March 13 and 14. Participants can reschedule their place for the next year or receive a refund.

On March 19, the longest reindeer sledding race "Ryilet" began in Chukotka. Four kayaks are participating in the competition, who will have to travel from the village of Chuvanskoe to the village of Lamutskoye through glaciers, forests and the bed of the Yeropol River. The route will be 90 km long.
