The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Ivan Frolov, a researcher at the RAS Research Center (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation), to 9.5 years in prison, finding him guilty of financing terrorist activities. This was reported to TASS on March 23 by the court's press service.
It is noted that the 33-year-old scientist transferred 2.8 thousand rubles to the account of the organization "Artillery Preparation" (banned in Russia and recognized as extremist).
"The court sentenced Frolov to 9 years and 6 months in prison, with the first 3 years served in prison, and the remainder of the sentence in a high—security penal colony, with a fine of 330 thousand rubles," the statement said.
At the moment, the verdict has not entered into legal force. The decision may be appealed on appeal.
On March 16, a local court in Primorye sentenced a resident found guilty of financing FBK (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and liquidated) and the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to 14 years in a high-security penal colony. According to the investigation, the man also financed the Ukrainian Armed Forces by making a number of money transfers totaling more than 13 thousand rubles.
