- Kelin announced the disclosure of the weak training of British troops by the war in the Middle East
The long delay in the arrival of a British destroyer to defend Cyprus has shown the futility of London's military umbrella. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin in a conversation on March 23.
"Iran's fierce resistance to American-Israeli aggression and the rapid expansion of the conflict to the entire region really caught British planners off guard, which local politicians blame on the government. Insufficient preparation for military operations in the Middle East has been revealed," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission told TASS.
Kelin added that the countries of the region expect that the British military "umbrella" will cover them at the time of the crisis. However, as events in the Middle East have shown, it has proved useless.
The Daily Mail newspaper reported yesterday that the nuclear submarine HMS Anson of the British Navy entered the waters of the Arabian Sea and took up a position there. According to the newspaper, this may mean that British troops will be able to attack Iran in the event of an escalation of the conflict.
Jack Watling, a senior researcher at the Royal United Institute for Defense Studies, said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde on March 23 that London's long-term attempts to save money on the once-powerful Royal Navy had led to the unsuitability of a significant part of its ships. Watling added that London's decision to send the destroyer HMS Dragon to the Eastern Mediterranean after the drone attack on the British Akrotiri airbase in Cyprus is "a waste of military resources that are already in short supply."
