In the Khasansky district of Primorsky Krai, since March 20, the extinguishing of a large natural fire has continued, which has grown to 8 thousand hectares. This is reported by the regional government.

"Driven by a strong wind, the fire passed through significant areas and spread towards Gvozdevo and Zarubino. Here it was localized on an area of about 3 thousand hectares," the report says.

Extinguishing has been underway since March 20 in the territory of the specially protected natural area of regional significance "LOM Yasnoye". A small fire in the vicinity of the village of Posiet quickly escalated into a large forest fire and got out of control. Paratroopers, paratroopers and forest firefighters work in extremely difficult conditions.

According to the head of extinguishing Artem Shempelev, during the daytime, with strong winds, the fire front can move at speeds up to 60 m/min. The fire mainly engulfed wetlands, shrubs, and sparsely wooded areas with high herbage. New foci are emerging near the forest areas of the Kraskinsky district forestry, which creates additional complexity.

According to the press service of the Primorsky airbase, a reinforced group of seven aviation security units with a total of 112 to 125 people is working on site. According to the forestry dispatch service, the cause of the fire is intentional or careless actions of local residents.

Earlier in March, it was reported that in Primorye, the number of cameras of the Lesokhranitor video surveillance system capable of detecting a fire at the initial stage would be doubled. They are installed on cell towers, each providing a 360-degree view of the area with a range of up to 20 km.
