Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree authorizing specialized private security organizations to use small arms to protect facilities from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during a special military operation. The relevant document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information on March 23.

The opportunity to use such weapons is provided by private companies, which were created with the participation of strategic enterprises, companies with state participation, state corporations, as well as subjects of natural monopolies. The law also applies to security units that ensure security at facilities from the list of critical ones, at facilities of the highest priority category, as well as those classified as requiring anti-terrorist protection, it follows from the text of the document.

In addition, private companies are given the right to purchase both service weapons and models of civilian weapons that can be used for official purposes.

In January, the State Duma Committee on Energy proposed allowing the protection of energy facilities to use military firearms in order to protect against drone attacks. As the head of the committee, Nikolai Shulginov, emphasized, the safety of energy facilities in modern conditions remains one of the key issues for the stable operation of the entire fuel and energy complex (fuel and energy complex).

On March 11, during a plenary session, deputies of the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings a bill allowing specialized private military companies to use small arms to protect critical infrastructure facilities from unmanned aerial vehicles.
