The United States is considering inviting President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to a meeting with American leader Donald Trump at the White House or Mar-a-Lago estate. On March 23, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported with reference to the special envoy of the President of the United States for the Republic of Belarus, John Cole.

"The United States is considering inviting President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to a meeting with Donald Trump at the White House or his home at Mar-a-Lago, seeking diplomatic warming with the authoritarian state," the publication says.

Trump's special Envoy to the Republic of Belarus, John Cole, confirmed that internal discussions on a possible invitation to Alexander Lukashenko to meet with the American leader have been underway for several months, but no final decision has yet been made.

"Internal discussions on the leader's invitation to a meeting with Trump have been going on for several months. We still have a lot of work to do to achieve this, but I think we can do it," Cole said in an interview with FT.

On March 20, Lukashenko said that he had received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to hold talks in Florida, at the US president's residence at Mar-a-Lago. Speaking about the negotiations with the Americans, the Belarusian leader stressed that it was about discussing a "big deal." The agreement should include the problems of political prisoners in Belarusian prisons, as well as issues related to the work of embassies and control over nuclear materials.
