The defense of TV presenter Tatiana Lazareva (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) appealed the verdict in absentia in a criminal case on evading the duties of a foreign agent. This was reported to Izvestia on March 23 by her lawyer Leonid Solovyov.

"An appeal against the verdict has been filed," he said.

On March 5, Lazareva was sentenced in absentia to seven years in a general regime penal colony. In addition, she was banned from administering information resources for four years. The punishment was imposed in conjunction with the previous sentence.

Added to the list of terrorists and extremists since June 2022, and also included in the register of individuals who are foreign agents, Lazareva was arrested in absentia on July 10, 2024, under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls to carry out terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism using mass media, including the Internet").

A correspondent for Izvestia, broadcasting on October 7, 2025 from the Presnensky courtroom in Moscow, reported that the TV presenter was sentenced in absentia to seven years in a penal colony. Later, in December last year, the TV presenter appealed to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation the verdict in the case of justifying terrorism. On February 4, the Moscow City Court, at the request of the prosecutor's office, overturned the TV presenter's sentence in absentia and referred her case of evading the duties of a foreign agent for a new trial.
