India and other countries are actively considering the possibility of increasing purchases of Russian oil, which arose due to the lifting of sanctions by US President Donald Trump on oil sales operations. This was announced on March 23 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko at the international conference "Russia and India: Towards a New Agenda for Bilateral Relations."

"They (India. — Ed.) are actively considering the possibility of taking advantage of the delay that Trump gave them, that's a fact. And not only India, by the way: many countries are also thinking about increasing purchases of our energy resources," TASS quoted him as saying.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the planned visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia in 2026.

On March 12, the US Treasury Department reported that as part of the changes in the sanctions policy, Trump granted an exception for the sale of Russian oil and petroleum products shipped before March 12.

On March 9, Reuters reported that the Trump administration is considering easing anti-Russian sanctions. It was clarified that this was due to a sharp drop in Brent crude oil prices.
