AvtoVAZ to upgrade aluminum casting production
AvtoVAZ will re-equip the production of aluminum casting and forging forgings. This will make it possible to increase productivity, maintain stable quality of serial parts and implement a number of promising projects, the press service of the automobile company said in a statement received by Izvestia on March 23.
The decision to replace the equipment fleet was made three years ago, and now the process is entering an active stage. 10 new injection molding machines have been purchased, some of which have been put into operation.

So, the first of the injection molding machines has been launched — it fills the crankcase of the steering mechanism for Lada Iskra and Vesta. In March, a machine that casts an oil sump for 16-valve engines, as well as a machine that produces a gearbox crankcase, was commissioned. New coquille casting equipment has been launched, this complex produces a 16-valve cylinder head.
AvtoVAZ also announced the renewal of its fleet of robots that replace humans in dangerous operations. Robots extract hot workpieces from injection molding machines, cool them and send them to the machining lines. In total, 70 robots are operating in the production of aluminum casting and forgings, of which 23 will be replaced by the end of the year. AvtoVAZ currently employs over 1,600 robots, which is the highest figure in the industry, the company said.

In addition to the production of aluminum casting, AVTOVAZ's metallurgical complex includes blacksmithing and iron foundry production (where modernization is also planned). This allows the company to cover the need for the main components of power units and chassis on its own, the automaker emphasized.
Earlier, on March 20, AvtoVAZ announced that it had started assembling cars under the SKM brand. The first will be the M7 model, which will appear in two versions.: an all-metal van and a cargo and passenger minivan. The models of the new brand will share the production site with commercial variations of Lada Granta and Niva and will be produced by a subsidiary of VIS-Avto.
