Rosneft talked about measures to protect water resources

Rosneft summed up the results of measures to improve environmental efficiency in the field of water use. The company's corporate program provides for a reduction in water intake from natural sources, an increase in the share of recycled water, the rational use of associated reservoir waters and the introduction of modern wastewater treatment systems, the press service of PJSC NK Rosneft noted.

The share of recycled and reused water in enterprises exceeds 93.7% of the total volume of water used for production needs, the company said. In the field of oil refining, in 2025, the Achinsk Refinery in the Krasnoyarsk Territory carried out the reconstruction of wastewater treatment plants — as a result, the share of reused water increased to 95%.

Phytofiltration technology is used at oil refineries in the Samara region at the wastewater treatment unit, the company said. The pioneer of the introduction was the Kuibyshev Refinery, where a high degree of wastewater disinfection is provided by water hyacinths (eichornia), pancracium and calamus vulgaris.

In the field of oil and gas production, as noted in Rosneft, at the fields of the Vankor cluster, RN-Vankor ecologists conduct constant monitoring of water bodies and the coastal strip. In cooperation with accredited laboratories, the state of wastewater treatment plants is regularly monitored and wastewater parameters are monitored according to 23 indicators. In 2025, specialists took 316 samples of wastewater and 664 samples of natural water and sediments.

The company's subsidiaries also carry out activities to conserve aquatic biological resources, the company added. In particular, employees of the Saratov Oil Refinery, as part of the responsible waste management program, collected 82 kg of plastic caps and purchased carp, carp carp and Amur white carp fry for the Volgograd reservoir. These fish species clean the reservoir of excess vegetation.
