Two crocodile heads were found in the hand luggage of a 36-year-old Russian who arrived on a flight from Thailand. This was announced on March 23 on the website of the press service of the Siberian Customs Administration.

The incident occurred during the selective control of passengers traveling through the "green" corridor. The unusual souvenirs were among the traveler's personal belongings.

"The exotic product was identified using an X-ray machine," the agency explained.

The baggage owner himself explained to the inspectors that he had purchased reptile parts for his personal collection. According to him, he was not aware of the need for mandatory declaration of such items and the provision of permits.

However, the examination confirmed that the crocodile heads are derivatives subject to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

The product has now been withdrawn. Two cases of administrative offenses have been initiated against the man under Part 1 of Article 16.2 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Non-declaration of goods") and under Article 16.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Non-compliance with established prohibitions and restrictions"). The sanctions of these articles provide for a monetary fine and confiscation of the objects of the offense.

Customs officers in Transbaikalia on March 5 detained a tourist with 16 bear claws. The man was traveling to China. During the inspection of his luggage, the inspector noticed unusual objects that looked like parts of a wild animal.
