The Interior Ministry gave advice on protection from SMS bombing
The principle of zero trust is the most effective cybersecurity strategy for citizens and helps protect against SMS bombing. This was reported on March 23 in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"The most modern and effective cybersecurity strategy is the Zero Trust principle, which teaches basic skepticism and helps to avoid becoming a victim of SMS bombing. In short, its essence can be expressed in one phrase: "Never trust, always check," the TASS press center said in response to the agency's request.
The Interior Ministry stressed that compliance with the basic rules of digital hygiene significantly reduces the risk of becoming a victim of fraud. The agency recommends that you do not trust incoming messages and calls by default until their security is confirmed. In addition, you should avoid publishing your phone numbers in the public domain, for example, on social networks or forums.
Experts recommend using complex and unique passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, enabling suspicious call blocking services from a mobile operator, and setting a self-lock on loans.
The Interior Ministry also recommends that you be wary of letters calling for immediate action, especially if they relate to finances or contain links, including long or abbreviated ones through special services.
Boris Lopatin, MegaFon's senior fraud investigation expert, said on March 22 that the risks to children when using smartphones are related not only to Internet content, but also to basic device functions such as notifications, calls, and messages with confirmation codes. He noted that talking about security alone is not enough, and it is important to support family rules of smartphone use with basic device settings and pre-agreed behavior scenarios.
