Donetsk commemorates victims of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall

Donetsk residents paid tribute to those killed in the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the Moscow region. The event was held at the Donetsk City Shopping and Entertainment Center on March 22, exactly on the second anniversary of the tragedy. Izvestia publishes footage from the scene of the action.

"Two years ago, on March 22, 2024, a tragic event took place at Crocus City Hall, which united our entire country. About 150 lives were cut short, more than 600 people were injured," said Angelina Lipko, project manager of the regional office of the Movement of the First in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

Konstantin Shatokhin, the soloist of the Donetsk State Academic Philharmonic, performed the famous song "Cranes", familiar to many of the visitors. Also, one of the activists of the "Movement of the First" made an author's poem. All participants of the commemorative event were presented with the symbol of the immortal soul — a crane made of paper.

"This is important primarily for the younger generation. We already understand that terrorism is bad. And we need to bring this up in our children, in the younger generation, so that people do not embark on this terrible path," Shatokhin said.

The ceremony ended with a minute of silence in memory of those killed in the terrorist attack.

The perpetrators and 15 of their accomplices were sentenced to life and long terms, but the investigation continues to look for the organizers.

Activists of the youth non-profit organizations (NGOs) of the DPR held their memorial action on the same day. As a sign of sorrow, the participants lit lamps and put out the inscription "We mourn 03/22/2024". The youth of Donbass gathered to honor the memory of all the victims.

Alyona Verbenin, the mother of Maxim Verbenin, a wheelchair user who died in the terrorist attack, told Izvestia on March 12 that his remains could only be buried almost two years after the tragedy. In the first months after the tragedy, the body could not be found because of the high temperature.

The terrorist attack in Crocus occurred on March 22, 2024. Then armed terrorists in camouflage broke into the concert hall and opened fire, setting the premises on fire. As a result of the incident, 149 people were killed and over 600 were injured in various degrees of severity.
