Sobyanin spoke about the supply of high-quality drinking water to Muscovites
Every day, a resident of Moscow receives almost 3 million cubic meters of clean drinking water. This was announced by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, pointing out that the capital's water supply system is the largest and most extensive in Russia, and its length is 13 thousand km. According to the mayor, the capital's water is also supplied to some cities in the Moscow region.
As Sobyanin noted, thousands of specialists and hundreds of automatic monitoring devices monitor water quality around the clock — by 2026 their number has reached more than 600.
"We are constantly improving the equipment and methods of water purification. Today, all four water treatment plants use a classic two—stage water purification scheme, while two — Rublevskaya and Zapadnaya - operate ozone absorption units. They not only purify water, but also improve its microbiological parameters and taste qualities," Sobyanin wrote on his channel in the MAX.
At the same time, water quality is checked automatically: over the past 15 years, the number of monitored parameters has increased by 55%. Currently, "studies are being conducted on 200 physico‑chemical and biological indicators," Sobyanin said.
He added that during high water, "water quality control is being strengthened both in reservoirs and at all stages of water treatment." At the same time, rain and meltwater "passes through automated stations with several stages of mechanical purification," the mayor emphasized.
In January, Sobyanin announced that 179 reservoirs had been put in order in Moscow over the past 14 years, and plans for 2026 include the rehabilitation of 13 more water bodies, including Bolshoy Molzhaninovsky, Egersky, Michurinsky and Terekhovsky ponds. The objects are selected based on the results of an analysis of their condition, as well as taking into account the pace of development of a comfortable urban environment. First, specialists clean ponds of sediments and debris, form the bottom and repair the coastal strips. After that, bio—plateau zones are created - various aquatic plants are planted there during the warm season.
