Blogger Lercek continues to fight cancer. What is known
Russian blogger Valeria Chekalina (Lercek) continues intensive treatment for stage four stomach cancer with multiple metastases. In mid-March, the court changed the measure of restraint from house arrest to a ban on certain actions, suspending the criminal case. The blogger's lover, Argentine dancer Luis Squicciarini, reported on three types of therapy that she is undergoing in parallel. All the latest details are in the Izvestia article.
The condition of patients undergoing therapy
On March 20, Chekalina's lover, the Argentine dancer Luis Squicciarini, spoke about her current treatment. According to him, the blogger is undergoing three types of therapy at once: chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy. The course includes nine procedures with an interval of three weeks.
"My friends and I support her, her family is always there. She's holding on, but it's very hard. Three therapies in parallel is very difficult for a person," said Squicciarini.
Doctors assess Lercek's condition as moderate. She uses a wheelchair. The blogger was diagnosed with multiple metastases — in the spine (two broken vertebrae were recorded), in the bones of the skull, in the lungs, as well as a tumor in the brain and damage to the brain membrane. She began chemotherapy on March 14 and radiation therapy on March 16. After the first immunotherapy on March 18, Squicciarini reported an improvement in her condition.
Lercek's refusals to visit private clinics
On March 21, Chekalina's lawyers published a statement on their Telegram channel stating that the Interior Ministry investigator had refused the blogger access to private medical institutions four times. In confirmation, the defenders provided copies of refusals to requests for medical visits.
"We present to your attention four refusals (to visit a doctor)," the publication says. In two cases, it was about the private clinic "Mother and Child" on Sevastopolsky Avenue, in two more — about the dental clinic on Minskaya Street. The lawyers also stated that they have other documentary evidence of Chekalina's refusals to visit a doctor.
On March 20, Lercek submitted an application to the Investigative Committee (IC) demanding to check the actions of the employees of the Department of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Regional Administrative District. The statement states that during the period of house arrest, the blogger repeatedly needed medical help, but difficulties arose with obtaining permits to visit doctors. According to the blogger's version, the disease was not diagnosed in a timely manner, and later Chekalina was diagnosed with a severe form of cancer.
The position of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
On March 20, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow denied information about a complete ban on Nurses visiting medical institutions. The department clarified that during the preliminary investigation, the blogger and her defenders were not prohibited from visiting state medical institutions — all relevant petitions were granted in full.
Refusals were issued only twice — when the blogger wanted to visit private commercial clinics. The Interior Ministry stressed that Lercek's statement about a complete ban on visiting doctors is "far from reality."
Repayment of the tax debt and court decisions
As of March 22, Valeria Chekalina's tax debt to the state has been fully repaid. The amount owed was 176 million rubles. According to media reports, an anonymous philanthropist transferred more than 175 million rubles to close the debt on her sole proprietor. Consideration of the Federal Tax Service's bankruptcy petition has been postponed until March 31.
On March 16, the Gagarin District Court of Moscow suspended proceedings in the blogger's criminal case on the withdrawal of more than 250 million rubles to the UAE due to a serious health condition. The measure of restraint has been changed from house arrest to a ban on certain actions. Lercek is allowed to use the Internet only to visit medical and educational websites, as well as court pages. The blogger's children from his marriage to Artyom Chekalin — 10-year—old twins Alice and Bogdan, as well as four-year-old Lev - currently live with their father and are aware of their mother's illness.
