- Szijjarto announced the resumption of the work of Friendship after the elections in Hungary
After the parliamentary elections in Hungary on April 12, Ukraine will be forced to resume transit of energy resources through the Druzhba pipeline. This was announced on March 21 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"Ukrainians will run out of money much faster than we have oil. Therefore, after we win the elections, they will be forced to restart this pipeline," he stressed, and the minister posted his speech on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The Minister expressed confidence that the restoration of transit can take place as soon as possible.
"On the morning of April 13 (the day after the election. It turns out that the Ukrainians have amazing oil engineers with excellent technical knowledge, and by noon on the 13th they will be able to repair the pipeline, and in the evening on the 13th transit will begin again," said Szijjarto.
He also accused Kiev of attempts at energy pressure. According to him, Ukraine is "trying to carry out a complete energy blockade."
"In recent days, they have fired 22 drones at the compressor station, which is of key importance for the functioning of the Turkish Stream <...> In the coming weeks, we can be sure that the Ukrainians will do their best to attack this pipeline, which is critically important for Hungary's gas supply," the politician believes.
Szijjarto also linked the situation to the broader energy crisis caused by conflicts in the Middle East and supply constraints. He noted that the European Union's rejection of Russian energy resources increases pressure on the market, and stressed Budapest's intention to ensure the preservation of cheap oil and gas supplies to prevent price increases for the population.
