Entomologist Roman Khryapin spoke about giant ticks spreading across Russia.

In conversation with aif.ru On Friday, March 20, the specialist noted that we are talking about ticks of the Hyalomma genus, which are distinguished by their large size and durable shell. According to him, they are about three times the size of regular ones, so they are easier to notice on clothes.

He noted that such ticks do not tolerate tick-borne encephalitis, but they can be carriers of borreliosis and Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever. At the same time, according to him, these diseases are treatable and generally less dangerous than encephalitis, although complications are possible.

The expert also drew attention to the fact that Hyalomma can chase a victim: unlike ordinary ticks that wait on the grass, they are able to navigate the vibrations of the soil and move after a person, especially in steppe and semi—desert regions - in the Volgograd and Astrakhan regions and Kalmykia.

On March 19, biologist Dmitry Safonov said that an invasion of dangerous mutant ticks resistant to hunger, extreme weather conditions and aerosol sprays had been recorded in southern Russia. We are talking about ticks that are resistant to heat, are able to winter in Russia and go without food for a long time. According to the expert, their bite, in addition to the standard symptoms, can lead to the development of Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever.

At the same time Safonov told 360.ru that this type of tick has long been known to science. It is simply expanding its range due to climate change, the website writes. kp.ru .

Also on March 19, expert Vladimir Pinaev, in an interview with the Moscow city News agency, did not rule out the import of "mutant ticks" to the capital. The ecologist called for wearing light-colored closed clothes on walks, tucking trousers into socks, using repellents and examining oneself and pets after returning.

On March 18, Vladislav Zhemchugov, an immunologist and specialist in especially dangerous infections, told NSN that ticks are more common not in urban parks, but on forest trails. You can protect yourself with the help of closed clothes made of dense materials and high boots.
