The route of the main race of the 91st Festival of the North, the Murmansk Ski Marathon, will be changed due to the thaw. This was announced by the organizing committee of the sports event.

"Of course, changing the route is force majeure, which happened for the first time in the 52—year history of the marathon," said Alexander Ignatiev, a consultant at the Murmansk Ski Race, quoted by Bi-port news agency.

According to the expert, back on March 18, it was possible to move freely on the ice of Lake Chaika and Rogozera on snowmobiles, and the next day the skier went under water up to her waist.

Due to the March thaw, athletes were urged not to go out to water during training to avoid accidents.

As Ignatiev noted, the organizing committee is currently doing everything possible to ensure that the main race of the Polar Olympiad takes place.
