Nabiullina stated the task of drawing a line under high inflation
The final end of the period of high inflation is a key task in Russia. This was announced on March 20 by the head of the Central Bank (CB) Elvira Nabiullina.
"The key task is to finally draw a line under the period of high inflation," she said in the regulator's annual report.
According to Nabiullina, achieving this goal will contribute to the growth of real incomes of citizens and provide business with opportunities for development through moderate interest rates. She also noted Russia's success in developing cashless payments, where the country is ahead of many developed countries.
Nabiullina called the launch of the digital ruble into widespread circulation an important direction for the development of the national infrastructure, which was being prepared throughout 2025. In addition, the chairman of the Central Bank highlighted a positive trend last year — an improvement in the situation in the field of cross-border payments.
At a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia on the key interest rate on the same day, Nabiullina added that the observed downward trend in market rates was a direct consequence of the slowdown in inflation. At the same time, she stressed that the level of interest rates in car loans remains unstable due to the programs of banks and automakers. According to the head of the Central Bank, the further dynamics of the market will depend not only on actual inflation, but also on the inflation expectations of the population.
