Planned blasting operations on rivers took place in the Moscow region. This was announced on March 20 by the press service of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation on the website.

These measures have been taken to protect settlements from possible flooding during the period of active snowmelt.

"The operational group of the main directorate, together with explosives experts from the Leader Special Risk Operations Center and the Noginsk Rescue Center, carried out explosive work in the Taldom city district," the department said.

The main stage of the work took place at the confluence of the Dubna and Sister rivers. As a result of the directed explosions, it was possible to free a 100-meter-long section from the ice shell.

Experts emphasize that such preventive measures are necessary for the smooth passage of water.

"The impact on the ice with the help of directed explosions prevents the formation of ice jams," the Ministry of Emergency Situations added.

The ministry notes that during high water, such congestion often causes a sharp rise in water levels and flooding of adjacent territories.

On March 17, the Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that flooding threatens 23 settlements in the Perm Region. It is noted that in 2026, the flood may be more intense than last year's due to the record height of the snow cover.
