"They clearly understand what to put pressure on. First of all, we are talking about the fear of loss ("you will lose the deposit", "the car will be taken away now"), lack of time ("you need to decide right now"), authority ("offer from the dealer", "a representative will contact you") and greed ("the price is below the market", "very good discount until tomorrow")," explained the psychologist in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Likunova stressed that any urgency in the deal is an alarming signal. And an even more significant reason to doubt the reality of what is happening is that the offer is too profitable.

"One of the most powerful "hooks" is the threat of losing money already deposited. A rational attitude will reduce fear and regain control of the situation: I can lose a small amount, but I will not allow myself to be dragged into a big loss," the expert advised.

The psychologist recommended that when deciding whether to buy a car, connect a third party, for example, a friend, relative or lawyer. Even a short discussion with someone can reduce the chance of error, she explained.

According to the psychologist, emotional stress dramatically reduces critical thinking. This is a normal mental reaction, not "stupidity" or inattention.

A phrase that should become an automatic reaction: "I need time to think. I'll contact you later." Remember that you don't need to explain or justify yourself, you need to interrupt the dialogue," the specialist said.
