FT reported on the preparation of international airlines for fuel shortages
The world's largest air carriers and airports are developing emergency measures in case of a shortage of aviation fuel amid supply disruptions and rising prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. The Financial Times (FT) newspaper wrote about this on March 20.
"Today we are developing plans in case of fuel shortages," said Ben Smith, executive director of Air France—KLM.
According to him, the companies are considering the option of reducing flights to Southeast Asia, which is "much more dependent on fuel supplies through the Persian Gulf than Europe."
"We can get fuel from Europe, but when we arrive in a city in Southeast Asia, we can't fly back <...> You can't fly without fuel," he explained.
British easyJet notes that suppliers have confirmed the availability of fuel only for the next three weeks and do not provide guarantees for a longer period.
