The United States and its allies have stepped up the fight to open the Strait of Hormuz, sending low-flying attack aircraft and Apache helicopters over the shipping lanes to destroy Iranian naval vessels. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on March 20.

"Currently, A-10 Warthog attack aircraft are fighting on the southern flank, attacking high—speed attack boats in the Strait of Hormuz, and Apache helicopters have joined the battle on the southern flank," the WSJ quoted General Dan Kane, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as saying.

It is noted that the United States will probably still need several weeks to eliminate the Iranian network of agents who prevented the movement of ships through the bottleneck, through which 20% of global oil exports and a significant part of commercial shipping pass.

On March 15, President of the United States Donald Trump appealed to countries dependent on oil supplied through the Strait of Hormuz, blocked by Iran, to ensure the safety of this transport route. He then threatened NATO with a "bad future" if it refused to help unblock the water area.

Later, on March 17, the Axios portal learned about the reluctance of the US allies to join the coalition on the Strait of Hormuz. Trump himself called the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz unfair, because the United States "has already won." The day before, he also announced the imminent completion of the operation against Iran, assuring that "we will not have to wait long."
