Degtyarev declared the highest level of the Russian Paralympic school
Russian Paralympians have confirmed the highest level of the Russian Paralympic school in conditions of restrictions. This was announced on March 20 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee.
"Under the conditions of pressure, restrictions <...> and competitive practice, they have confirmed the highest level of the Russian coaching school," he said at the reporting and election conference of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC).
Degtyarev stressed that the performance of six athletes at the Games in Italy, where they won 12 medals (eight gold) and took the third team place, was "one of the brightest pages" in the history of sports. According to the minister, the admission of the national team with the flag and anthem became possible thanks to the diplomatic work of the PKR and the CAS decision.
"All our six Paralympians proved themselves to be real heroes, of course, and accomplished a feat," Degtyarev said.
The Minister also highlighted the task of supporting veterans of the special military operation. The Ministry of Sports, together with the PKR, actively involves participants in adaptive sports, which helps them in rehabilitation. According to Degtyarev, the success of the Paralympians serves as a "beacon" for military personnel, proving the possibility of realization in sports after injuries.
During the ceremony of awarding state awards to members of the Russian Paralympic team on March 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the Russian flag and anthem had triumphantly returned to the sports arena thanks to the Russian Paralympians. The Head of State congratulated the Russian team on their high results at the Winter Paralympic Games and thanked the athletes' mentors separately.
