In 2026, the Amur region is expected to have a high number of ticks and some agricultural pests. The reason was the thick snow cover in winter.

According to Pavel Zhirnov, head of the Blagoveshchensk regional department of the Rosselkhoznadzor, the winter had frozen to heavy snowfall, and some of the pests died. However, snow as a thermal insulator provided a good wintering for the surviving individuals. This is reported by PriamurMedia news agency.

At the moment, the height of the snow cover reaches 40 cm, which is not typical for the Amur region. Moisture remains in the ground during melting, which creates favorable conditions for ticks. Their numbers are expected to grow compared to last year.

The first ticks have already been found in the Moscow region and Moscow. In addition, residents of Siberia and the Northwestern Federal District have reported bites.
