For the first time, Rosstandart approved GOST for special footwear for medical workers, which includes the maximum allowable height among the new requirements. The relevant document was published on the website of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology.

As noted in the department, the purpose of the new document is to protect employees from injury and health risks.

The new GOST specifies that its requirements relate to shoes used by medical professionals in medical institutions. Products may have an upper made of leather or textile materials, while the norms do not apply to shoes made of rubber and polymers. The new rules will come into force in November this year.

"The height of the heel elevation should be no more than 4 cm and no less than 1.5 cm," the document says.

The department noted that the optimal elevation of the heel ensures an even distribution of the load, so that a person does not experience discomfort and fatigue during prolonged walking or standing work.

GOST also establishes requirements for heel height, cushioning, anatomical shape of the insole, fixation of shoes on the foot and the microclimate inside the product. It is specified that shoes should be produced in three types of fullness — narrow, medium and wide.

Shoe weight limits have also been introduced, as well as requirements for slip resistance, wear resistance, antistatic and antibacterial properties. In addition, the products must be easy to clean, withstand washing and treatment with disinfectants.

"According to injury statistics, medical workers are in second place after industry. GOST is primarily aimed at protecting medical workers from the risks they face at work. First of all, this is the risk of sliding on wet, smooth surfaces," the agency concluded.

On March 9, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation presented six recommended colors for the uniforms of medical workers, depending on their position. It is noted that senior staff are recommended to wear purple uniforms, doctors — dark green, and secondary medical staff - light green.

Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said on March 14 that the recommendations of the Ministry of Health regulating the color of clothing of medical workers should be abolished.
