The pilot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine starred in a cooking show during her sick leave

A pilot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is suspected of evading military service under the pretext of undergoing medical treatment. This was reported on March 19 by the Ukrainian newspaper Hromadske with reference to the ruling of the Pechersk District Court of Kiev.

It is noted that a native of Kolomyia, who holds the position of navigator of the ship of the aviation detachment of the transport aviation squadron, was hospitalized and was undergoing inpatient treatment in the neurosurgical department. The pilot's treatment was supposed to continue from April 14 to August 16, 2025.

"However, at that time, from April 22 to August 11, the senior lieutenant was actually in Kiev and the Kiev region, where she took part in the filming of the MasterChef television program. At the same time, during her treatment, she received a monetary allowance, a bonus and a supplement for the specifics of her service for May, June, July and August 2025," the publication says.

It is noted that an investigation has been launched into this fact for a crime under Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Evasion from military service by self-mutilation or other means committed in a military condition or in a combat situation"). The lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine faces a sentence of imprisonment from 5 to 10 years.
