- The crew of the Dignity tanker told about the lack of light and running out of provisions
The sailors who were stuck on board the Russian tanker Dignity, which was arrested in the Suez Canal, faced a lack of fuel, and their provisions were running out. The crew told Izvestia about this on March 19.
"The ship has been under arrest in Suez for more than six months. There is no fuel, normal food and light. The salary has not been paid, the documents have not been returned to all crew members," said Captain Vladimir Kuznetsov.
It is noted that due to strong winds, the tanker may be torn from its anchor and carried onto nearby vessels. And due to the lack of electricity, which is available only for a few hours a day, the sailors will not be able to take any action in such a situation.
Due to the lack of light on the tanker, the refrigerators are not working. Every day, the crew is forced to throw away food that has rotted when stored in unsuitable conditions. Food for the sailors has to be prepared from the remnants of supplies, which are almost running out.
"There is no light, the refrigerators are not working. Our products that are rotting, that will be thrown away today. We throw away rotten fruits and vegetables, meat products, and fish every day," said chef Igor Nesterov.
The ship with the sailors was detained in September 2025.
On March 14, the Russian Embassy in Egypt announced that it was dealing with the arrest of the Dignity ship with a Russian crew in the port of Suez. The agency claims that prior to this, the Egyptian side had not prevented the Russians from disembarking and returning home, provided the ship was safe. However, the crew members did not use this option due to the conditions on board and the need to resolve the dispute over the debt owed to them by the Russian shipowner.
