Oncologist assessed the need for a unified medical base in Russia
The development of centralized medical databases makes it possible to significantly improve the accuracy of artificial intelligence (AI) systems and the effectiveness of medical practice. This was stated to Izvestia by Elena Satirova, oncologist of the highest category, medical director of Neuromed LLC.
The quality of the algorithms, according to her, directly depends on the volume and structure of the medical information on which they are trained.
"As a doctor and an active user of AI in my work, I can say that the larger and better the database, the deeper and more accurate the answers that the system gives," the specialist explained.
For a doctor, a single database is actually a centralized repository of patient information. The presence of such a system allows you to quickly access a complete medical history — from diagnoses and test results to appointments, allergies and complaints for any period, said the interlocutor of the editorial office. This saves time searching for information and improves diagnostic accuracy.
Modern databases are also integrated with drug reference books and clinical recommendations, which helps the doctor to check current treatment protocols faster, take into account contraindications and possible drug interactions, the doctor added.
In addition, centralized data storage increases the safety and effectiveness of treatment, Satirova said. In particular, if a patient is being monitored by several specialists or is admitted to a hospital, all doctors will have access to up-to-date information thanks to a single database, which reduces the risk of errors and duplication of examinations.
Earlier it became known that artificial intelligence will begin processing all electronic medical records of Russians, and the research data that AI will decode will be collected in a single database.
