Property losses: Russians began to pledge bees, alpacas and honey
In 2026, the number of records on the pledge of movable property increased by 15%, the Federal Notary Chamber told Izvestia. At the same time, 64% of notifications relate to vehicles, and the rest are the most unexpected objects: from pianos and industrial equipment to electric scooters and precious stones. Alpacas, balalaika, bees with honey — the imagination of Russians knows no bounds. About why the demand for collateral is growing and what unusual things Russians give to secure it, see the Izvestia article.
What things do Russians pledge?
The Register of notices of pledge of movable property (RUZDI) contains 25.6 million entries, which is 15% more than in March 2025, the Federal Notary Chamber told Izvestia. More than half concerns vehicles (64%). At the same time, another 10.5 million records account for other movable property.
"Initially, the main task of the registry was to counteract fraudulent schemes in the secondary car market, when the owner of a mortgaged car sold it without mentioning his obligations," they recalled.
Another "regulars" of the registry are farm animals. Bulls and cows are among the leaders.
— Among the unusual things in the registry, you can find llamas and alpacas. There are birds: geese, chickens, ducks, turkeys with quails, pigeons and even ostriches. There are also fish — carp, salmon, trout, sturgeon and others. Beehives with bees are also in the registry," the notary added.
Pets are also pledged: cats, dogs, parrots, hamsters, snakes, iguanas, turtles and chameleons. Plants such as cacti, ficuses, roses and tulips are also used in this capacity.
— You can find honey, cheese, and blueberries in the registry. Alcoholic beverages are also found among the pledges: for example, wine is mentioned 57.7 thousand times, cognac — 14.7 thousand, and whiskey — 7.9 thousand times, the FNP noted.
Precious stones are often deposited as collateral. So, records about diamonds and diamonds are found 100 thousand times, sapphires — more than 16 thousand, and rubies — 9.6 thousand times.
Over the past year, there have been 13% more records about furs. Among the musical instruments, guitars and violins, drums, grand pianos, pianos, ukuleles and balalaika are pledged.
What kind of transportation is being laid
There are more and more "credit" vehicles, the FNP noted. A year ago, there were 12.9 million vehicle records in the registry, and now there are 15.1 million. The growth was 17%. In addition to passenger cars, tractors are mentioned 1.1 million times, while their number has more than doubled over the past five years. About a million are semi—trailers. Since 2021, there have been 2.6 times more records about them.
"There are entries in the registry about other vehicles — buggies, bicycles, snowmobiles, boats, speedboats. There are even airplanes — to date, more than 13 thousand records have been made about them," the notary chamber said. "But there are fewer notifications about helicopters — only 1,400."
"Collateral" electric cars are also gaining popularity — over the past five years, there have also been 2.6 times more records about them. The number of notifications about electric scooters has almost doubled over the past year. There are gyro scooters, monowheels and monocycles in the registry.
— Industrial machinery is often transferred as collateral. Thus, the register contains more than 1.5 million records about engines, and almost 1 million about machine tools," the FNP added. — Loaders are mentioned about 600 thousand times. Over the past five years, the number of entries for the listed objects has increased 1.6, 1.7 and 2.7 times, respectively. Dump trucks, excavators, and bulldozers are also present in the registry.
There are also various electronics in the registry. Almost 6 thousand notifications about smartphones, 38 thousand about laptops. Data on video cards, which are necessary for mining cryptocurrencies, RAM (RAM storage devices), and routers continue to be entered.
More than 68 thousand . Refrigerators are mentioned several times, almost 31 thousand. once — TVs, 22.5 thousand. once — vacuum cleaners, 13.7 thousand — coffee machines. There are also about 270 hot tub notifications.
— There are deposits of a more delicate nature. For example, there are currently 8,700 records of typical products from the range of sex shops. During the year, there were 7% more of them, and in five years the number of such notifications increased by 63%, the notary chamber noted.
What are the risks of collateral
The registry records the dates of all notifications, so if the property has been mortgaged several times, the notary database allows you to determine the seniority of the pledge, said Vadim Tkachenko, CEO of the vvCube consulting group.
— The mortgagee, who was the first to declare the pledge, gets the right to be the first to claim this property in case of bankruptcy of the mortgagor, — he said. — This brings transparency and stability to collateral relations.
More than half of the notices in the notary's pledge register relate to vehicles. A vehicle is most often secured when a person takes out a car loan to purchase it.
— If you buy a car that is secured, you can get obligations on other people's loans along with it, — Vadim Tkachenko reminded. — Therefore, before the transaction, it is important to check the transport of interest through a free online service. To check, you need to enter the VIN or PIN code, chassis or body number.
If the car is listed as an object of collateral, it may be dangerous to buy it, the lawyer warned. If the previous owner stops paying off the loan, the bank may demand repayment of the debt from the new owner or take the car from him through the court.
Notaries make entries about the pledge in the register after receiving relevant information from the pledgee, for example, a credit institution, the experts recalled. Or from the pledgor, the person or company whose property is being pledged.
The growth of the collateral registry is a direct consequence of the fact that lending in Russia remains active even in conditions of high interest rates, says Igor Rastorguev, a leading analyst at AMarkets.
"When money is expensive, banks increase their collateral requirements: unsecured loans to businesses at a key rate of 21% are a big risk, so everything on the balance sheet is used," he said. — Hence the diversity of the registry: tractors, combines, machine tools, goods in circulation.

According to the Bank of Russia, agricultural lending alone increased by 27.7% in November 2025 compared to the same period a year earlier, and the loan portfolio of Rosselkhoznadzor and Sberbank in the agro-industrial complex in total exceeds 1.1 trillion rubles. There is a specific pledge behind this money — the very 5.6 million records about bulls and cows, pigs, combines and seeders.
According to him, the portfolio of car loans has reached almost 3 trillion rubles by the autumn of 2025, and this is against the background of rates that exceeded 22% per annum in the first half of the year. People took out cars on credit anyway — they were especially in a hurry before the increase in the recycling fee from January 1, 2026. Therefore, there were 17% more transport records in Russia in just one year.
