Two new fairy tales will compete for audience attention at the box office. "The housekeeper Kuzya – 2" presents the girlfriend of the main character Tikhon and Ivan Okhlobystin as Koshchei, and in "Doctor Gaf" Sergey Garmash talks to animals in their language. The recap of the series "Chainsaw Man" tells the story of the demon slayer Denji. Jodie Foster and Daniel Otoy communicate in French in "Private Life". Sonya Raisman is trying to wake up her generation in the drama "Pictures of Friendships." And Pavel Lungin's "Island" is being re-released for the twentieth anniversary of the painting. Izvestia tells us what it's worth buying a ticket for this weekend.

Domovenok Kuzya – 2, 6+

Director: Victor Lakisov. Starring: Sergey Burunov, Garik Kharlamov, Polina Gagarina, Ekaterina Stulova, Ivan Okhlobystin

According to the results of Thursday, the fairy tale "Kuzya the Housekeeper – 2" is in the lead. There is nothing surprising here. The hero is well known to viewers of all generations, the first part earned a billion, and then there's a new trump card — Koshchei, played by Ivan Okhlobystin. In addition, Kuzi gets a girlfriend, Tikhonya, voiced by Polina Gagarina. This tale is currently at the top of the Russian box office and is likely to finish in first place over the weekend. And there are suspiciously intense videos on social networks showing the acting skills of Sergey Burunov, who voiced Kuzya. It's about the fact that the family audience will vote for this release, especially since many schoolchildren are on vacation now.

"Private life", 18+

Directed by Rebecca Zlotowski. Starring: Jodie Foster, Daniel Autoy, Virginie Efira, Mathieu Amalric, Vincent Lacoste, Frederick Wiseman

The tandem of two sex symbols of the recent past in the roles of ex‑spouses is a good reason to watch this detective story. But the main thing is to find a version with the original sound: here Jodie Foster speaks French. This is her first major role entirely in a foreign language — and the actress speaks it so flawlessly that, according to rumors, she duplicates her roles for French distribution of English-language films.

Foster and Othoy are walking through the streets, solving a murder, and we're just admiring: catching every gesture, listening to conversations, looking at familiar faces that we remember from childhood. Next to him is Mathieu Amalric, a big star of French cinema, but we know him a little less, and he has never been a sex symbol.

The film "Private Life" was shown at the last Cannes Film Festival out of competition — and it didn't make much noise. But everyone was trying to break through to Jodie Foster. Now she has a new career path: for "True Detective," the actress won a Golden Globe and an Emmy. And it proved once again that she is much more than just the "baby Starling" from the Hannibal Lecter story.

"Pictures of friendly relations", 18+

Director: Sonya Raisman. Starring: Evgeny Tsyganov, Alexander Pal, Maria Karpova, Sonya Raisman, Ruslan Bratov, Gosha Tokaev, Igor Tsaregorodtsev, Iskander Shaykhutdinov

The feature-length directorial debut of actress Sonya Raisman is, without exaggeration, an event for Russian auteur cinema. The film reflects on the generation of thirty-year-olds: those who seem to have fallen asleep and cannot wake up (read about this in the Izvestia review). The painting impresses not only with its content, but also with its form. The black‑and-white image gives the story a special aesthetic, and the documentary style of shooting blurs the line between the game and reality. It seems that the actors are not playing roles, but simply telling us about themselves — sincerely and without pretense.

The plot of the film covers one day in the life of graduates of the acting workshop. Their paths have long since parted: someone has become a superstar, someone is writing scripts and is facing industry difficulties ‑ disputes with producers and humiliating castings, and one of the characters is forced to work as a courier: there is not enough money for life in extras. On this day, former classmates gather to accompany their friend Sasha on a long journey. The meeting turns into an evening of memories: they drink, talk, compare life points — and learn an important lesson from their former master, whose role was elegantly and charismatically performed by Evgeny Tsyganov.

"The chainsaw man. Movie 2", 18+

Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara. Starring: Kikunosuke Toya, Tomori Kusunoki, Shogo Sakata, Ayumu Murase, Ai Fairuz

The success of this franchise is amazing. "Chainsaw Man: The Story of Reze" grossed almost $70 million last year at home in Japan, but then it also earned more than $40 million in North America, which is rare for Asian animation. Moreover, this cannot be compared with the box office of the masterpieces of Hayao Miyazaki and Makoto Shinkai, because this is a rather violent film for an adult viewer with strong nerves.

But in this case, and here it is important not to confuse, we are not looking at a continuation of the "Story of Reza", but a prequel. Because this is the second part of the full-length compilation of the animated series, "recap", where new scenes have been added. That is, there is not much new for anime viewers to pay for a movie ticket. On the other hand, it's interesting to see on the big screen how Denji and his mystical assistant Pochita serve in the demon hunting special forces. It's still a very entertaining and ironic action game, even if it's not original, but how can you deprive yourself of pleasure?

Ostrov, 18+

Directed by Pavel Lungin. Starring: Peter Mamonov, Viktor Sukhorukov, Dmitry Dyuzhev, Yuri Kuznetsov, Victoria Isakova, Nina Usatova, Yana Esipovich, Olga Demidova, Timofey Tribuntsev

Perhaps Ostrov does not top Pavel Lungin's personal rating of the best films, but it was this picture that found the deepest response from the audience — it got into some hidden corners of our collective consciousness. It is interesting to recall that before the release in 2006, producer Sergei Shumakov personally showed the film to cinema owners and asked them to support it: at that time there was no certainty that the public would accept this story.

The film went almost unnoticed in cinemas, but after being shown on television, it instantly won the love of the audience: first it became a super hit, then a classic, one of the iconic works of the 21st century. And Pyotr Mamonov, for millions of viewers, remained primarily an "actor from the Island."

20 years after its release, the film sounds even sharper, and the questions it raises become particularly relevant. If you have committed a heinous crime, can you atone for it? What needs to be done for this? How to repent? Especially if you have no one to justify yourself to.

There are two beginnings in the picture: A man in the image of an elderly, foolish monk and a Monastery, a system that is so protected and impeccable that it is impossible not to obey. Elder Anatoly chooses his own path — and this is not pride, but the only way to remain truly alive. It's not easy to watch this movie, but it's absolutely necessary — it's good that it got a second wind thanks to the re-release.
