- Russians were told about actions when leaking intimate photos on the Internet
If you find your own personal data or personal photos in Telegram channels or social networks, you need to act quickly and according to plan, Roskachestvo warned. Experts announced on Thursday, March 19, the mandatory steps in case of a leak.
Roskachestvo recommended documenting the fact that data or photos were distributed, that is, taking screenshots and saving links to published materials. This is necessary for contacting law enforcement agencies. In addition, experts urged Russians to use special request forms on the platforms themselves.
"Most social networks and video hosting sites have tools for complaining about privacy violations. The sooner you start acting, the fewer people will have time to see the photo," the experts emphasized in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Igor Pozdnyakov, the chief legal Adviser of Roskachestvo, noted that the actions of intruders who distributed personal photos or videos fall under Article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of privacy."
He clarified that in order to bring them to justice, you need to write a statement to the police. At the same time, it is necessary to keep evidence: links to publications, screenshots, as well as correspondence where these files appear.
"A crime is considered to have been committed from the moment the information became known to at least one outsider. The maximum penalty under this article ranges from a fine of up to 200,000 rubles to imprisonment for up to two years," Pozdnyakov said.
At the same time, if the criminal used his official position, then the responsibility will be stricter. The lawyer also stressed that responsibility begins at the age of 16, and even sending photos in private messages without your consent is already a crime.
"To avoid getting into a similar situation again, follow simple rules of digital hygiene. Never enter your personal information on websites offering to check if it has been leaked. <...> Carefully monitor your cloud storage and backup settings. Disable synchronization of folders that should not be online. Use complex passwords and two—factor authentication wherever possible," the experts recommended.
On March 18, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported on a new scheme to deceive Russians related to the delivery of equipment. It was noted that the attackers convince the victims that an order from an electronics store was allegedly placed in their name, and then lure out confidential data. At the same time, if the victim tries to find out what exactly was ordered, through which website and when the payment was made, the scammers ignore these questions and turn the conversation to another topic.
Earlier, on March 16, the information security company F6 reported that scammers began to use a new deception scheme — they are trying to hack the iPhone and iPad through Telegram modifications. 360.ru .
Scammers advertise online mods that supposedly help you use Telegram without failures. The criminals promise a "built-in VPN", an "anonymous number", an "incognito mode", and a "Premium subscription without payment," the NSN reports.
