A criminal case has been opened against six people from Tyumen who have been abducting people for several years. This was announced on March 19 by the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in the Tyumen region.
"By deceiving them (the victims. They lured them to various apartments in the city of Tyumen, where they threatened and used violence to hold the victims. Subsequently, the victims were illegally transferred to construction sites in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Yugra for forced labor," the agency's website says.
The kidnappers were looking for people who abuse alcohol, people without a fixed place of residence, and other citizens in difficult situations. It is noted that in the period from 2018 to February 11, 2026, six defendants managed to kidnap at least 20 people, all of them were released.
The investigative authorities have opened a criminal case on the abduction of people by a group of persons for mercenary motives (paragraphs "a, z" of Part 2 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The accused of abducting a nine-year-old girl in Smolensk was found dead in a pre-trial detention center on the same day. Prior to that, he was detained on February 27 while resisting.
It turned out to be 43-year-old Sergey G., who had previously been convicted of drug possession. The child was found in the apartment of the man's roommate, who was also taken into custody. Later, the girl was returned to her mother, and a case was opened against the abductor under Article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Kidnapping").
