On March 19, State Duma deputy, chairman of the Donbass Volunteer Union and former head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Alexander Borodai explained why Ukrainian militants voluntarily surrender.

"Of course, they don't have as many prisoners as we do <...> Moreover, some of those people who are captured by us are conscious prisoners who come over to our side and then fight on our side," he said in an interview with RT.

The deputy noted that there is a separate battalion in the Volunteer Corps of the Russian Armed Forces, in which only former Ukrainian prisoners serve.

He added that soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who were captured against their own free will often complain about poor training, lack of weapons, lack of ammunition and unwillingness to fight. Borodai clarifies that prisoners often come up with the same story about their positions and lack of training.

The former head of the DPR also told how the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are captured. He noted that Kiev often abandons the wounded.

On the same day, captured fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the possible involvement of their battalion commander of the 104th separate Territorial Defense Brigade, Velish Veldar Shukurdjiev oglu, in the killings of civilians in the village of Sopych, Sumy region.

Vladimir Kotik, a captured Ukrainian militant of the 425th separate assault regiment Skala, who was captured by the Vostok group of troops, said on March 15 that the AFU fighters no longer think or talk about victory, as they are exhausted and tired.
