- The Prime Minister of Croatia pointed out the difference in the cost of oil from the Russian Federation for the EU countries
Russian oil prices for Hungary and Slovakia are 30% cheaper than from other suppliers, thanks to supplies via the Druzhba oil pipeline. This was announced on March 19 by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic before a meeting of the Council of the European Union (EU).
"As you may know, there is a difference in the price of oil that you buy on the market from someone, compared to the oil that goes only through the pipeline from Russia through Ukraine to Slovakia and Hungary. The price difference is said to be 30%. [Russian oil] is 30% cheaper," Plenkovic said.
According to him, Croatia exists "not as a secondary, alternative, expensive route," but as a necessary and only reliable and safe route that "guarantees Hungary and Slovakia the normal functioning of their economies."
"[Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban] knows this very well. He knows that oil flows through Croatia to Hungary," he said.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on March 17 that the European Union could return oil supplies from Russia, but was moving in the opposite direction. According to him, due to the political decisions of the EU, the countries of the union were cut off from two major sources of oil.
On March 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting on the situation on the global oil and gas market, said that Russia was ready to work with the Europeans on energy supplies, but signals of their readiness were needed.
