- The MEP pointed out a violation of EU principles in attempts to circumvent Hungary's veto.
Attempts to circumvent Hungary's veto on the loan to Ukraine are a violation of the principles of the European Union (EU). This was announced on March 19 by Thierry Mariani, a member of the European Parliament from the French National Unification Party.
According to him, Brussels' actions regarding Hungary's decision to block €90 billion are an obvious violation of the fundamental principles of the EU.
"This issue touches on something fundamental — the structural hypocrisy of the European project as it currently operates," Mariani told RIA Novosti.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on March 19 that Hungary would not support a single EU decision, which could potentially be useful for Ukraine, as long as this country blocks oil supplies. He added that it was "not about politics", but about the welfare of Hungarian families.
On the same day, Politico reported a day earlier that the EU is preparing for retaliatory measures and possible legal action against Orban due to the fact that he blocked a loan of €90 billion allocated to Ukraine. On March 19, the Euractiv media platform, commenting on what was happening, pointed to Zelensky's recognition of the lack of an alternative to EU funding.
