"Black lumberjacks" destroyed a forest in the Amur region for 8 million rubles
In the Amur region, a court sentenced eight residents of the Svobodnensky district in a case of illegal tree felling as part of an organized group. The damage caused to the state by their actions is estimated at 8 million rubles.
The investigation found that the head of the group had been buying the right to harvest wood from citizens from 2021 to 2024. He signed contracts for the purchase and sale of forest resources on their behalf by proxy.
Then his accomplices, using their own equipment, cut down and took away the trees. They had trucks with crane installations, tractors and chainsaws, writes IA PriamurMedia with reference to the regional prosecutor's office.
The perpetrators received various types of punishment, including imprisonment for a term of five years in a general regime colony. They were also charged for material damage and equipment was confiscated in favor of the state.
Earlier, on March 18, it was reported that illegal logging was discovered by inspectors of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Transbaikalia during an inspection in the protected natural area "Gulya" of the Tunkiro-Olekminsky district. The damage caused by the actions of the "black lumberjacks" was estimated at 1.5 million rubles. The violators are two residents of the area. With the help of a chainsaw and an artisanal sawmill, they cut down trees and processed them into lumber.
