The US Senate has rejected by a majority the restrictions on the military powers of US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on March 19.

"The results of Wednesday's vote, in which Democrats demanded congressional approval to end the military campaign, were 47 votes to 53, which is identical to the results of the failed vote earlier this month," the publication says.

The newspaper writes that the unity of Republicans during the vote indicates that Trump still enjoys sufficient support, despite the protracted war in Iran and its possible consequences. At the same time, the Democrats announced their intention to interrupt the opponents' program until they justify the need for war.

"We will force them to vote on this issue over and over again, no matter how much they hate it, until we finally get the answers publicly that Americans deserve," Senator Tim Kaine of the Democratic Party said.

On the same day, Reuters reported that the US presidential administration was considering sending thousands of troops to the Middle East due to tensions with Iran. According to sources, options are being discussed to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz using aviation and naval forces, while the deployment of American troops on the Iranian coast is not excluded.

Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen, in a comment to Izvestia on March 17, said that the US military conflict with Iran is an absolute political disaster for the Republican Party, since it has no strategy, tactics, or ultimate goal. The military added that after several days of armed action, neither the United States nor Israel know what to do next.
