Most often, the ability to drive a car can be affected by the side effects of such categories of drugs as antihistamines, sedatives, opioid analgesics, antipsychotics, muscle relaxants, drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, certain antidepressants, anxiolytics (for the treatment of anxiety disorders) and some antihypertensive agents. This was announced on March 19 by the Marketing director of Ozon Pharmaceuticals, Valentina Milovanova.Газете.Ru ".

"There is no general universal list of prescription and over-the-counter medications that are contraindicated for drivers. But the instructions in the "Contraindications" or "Side effects" section may indicate whether the drug affects the ability to drive vehicles," the expert explained.

The specialist explained that if the instructions for the medicine indicate that it can cause drowsiness, decreased concentration, or other conditions that are potentially dangerous when driving, then driving should be avoided.

She noted that drugs that cause drowsiness or decreased concentration can affect driving: slow down the reaction to external stimuli, impair concentration and decision-making speed, provoke drowsiness or short-term loss of consciousness, cause dizziness and impair vision.

"Safety on the road depends not only on compliance with the rules, but also on the condition of the driver. It is not worth risking your own and other people's lives by driving a vehicle in a state where reaction and attention are reduced due to medication," concluded Milovanova.

In the magazine Phys.org On March 16, it was reported that scientists have developed a method for turning plastic bottles into a medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The study showed that with the help of specially modified E. coli bacteria, waste from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) can be converted into L‑DOPA, the main drug for the treatment of neurological disorders.
