Strizhament Nature Reserve celebrates 15th birthday
The natural reserve of regional significance "Strizhament" celebrated its 15th birthday. It was established on March 18, 2011, according to the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Stavropol Territory.
The reserve with an area of more than 4 thousand hectares is located on the border of Kochubeyevsky and Shpakovsky districts. The forest-steppe complex of the mountain of the same name is the highest point of the region and the Russian Plain.
The protected history of the place began back in 1961, writes StavropolMedia news agency. It was then that the natural attractions of the "Stone Chaos" on the northern slope of the mountain and the site of the relict beech forest received the status of regional natural monuments.
The reserve is home to more than 900 species of flora and 116 species of fauna. There are roe deer, hares, foxes and rare birds, including the owl and the snake-eater. It is also the only place in the region where the meadow steppe has been preserved.
In 2017, the first ecological trail in Stavropol was opened at Strizhament, which is very popular with tourists.
Earlier it was reported that eight fortresses of the Azov-Mozdok defensive line may appear in Stavropol in the form of art installations. The facilities are planned to be located in settlements where fortresses were once located.
