Qatar declared two Iranian attaches persona non grata due to strikes on the country
Qatar has declared the military and security attache of the Iranian Embassy persona non grata. This was announced on March 18 by the emirate's Foreign Ministry.
"The state of Qatar considers the military and security attache of the embassy, as well as the staff of the two attaches, persona non grata and requests them to leave the territory of the state within a maximum of 24 hours," a statement on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The decision was made in connection with Iran's repeated attacks that violate Qatar's sovereignty. The Foreign Ministry stressed that Tehran's actions violate international law and norms of good neighborliness.
The ministry stressed that despite Doha's policy of distancing itself from the war, the Iranian side continues to strike at Qatar and neighboring countries, acting irresponsibly and undermining regional security.
Qatar has repeatedly called for refraining from attacks on civilian and energy facilities, but Iran continues to escalate, pushing the region to the edge of the abyss and involving countries that are not parties to the conflict.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that the attack violates UN Security Council Resolution No. 2817 and called on the Council to take action. Qatar reserves the right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law.
The New York Times reported on March 17 that Qatar had asked the United States for additional interceptors for air defense systems amid increased attacks from Iran. According to the sources of the publication, stocks of American interceptors used to repel missile and unmanned attacks are rapidly declining and remain limited in resources.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported yesterday that Iran will continue to strike US bases in the Middle East until the complete withdrawal of the US military from the region. Later on March 18, it was reported that as a result of an Iranian strike, a fire started in the area of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) production complex in the city of Ras Laffan in Qatar.
