River shallowing is recorded in the territory of the Ural Federal District — the water content has decreased by almost half. This was reported to the <url> news agency by the Department of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Tyumen Region.

"In all subjects of the Russian Federation in the territory of the Ural Federal District, low water availability of rivers is currently maintained. In the Tyumen region, the decrease in water availability continues, which began in 2021," the department said.

The department notes that the situation is significantly affected by the flow of the main river of the entire Ural Federal District, the Ob. Already in 2023, it decreased to values below the norm by 20.5%. An additional decrease in runoff is also recorded on other rivers of the Gulf of Ob. In the federal district as a whole, there was a significant decrease in water content from -8.5% to -16.2%.

According to experts, the water level will begin to rise if the cycle changes to a high-water cycle.

Meanwhile, on March 18, the chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, criticized the implementation of the federal project "Improving the Volga River" and called for those responsible for the ineffectiveness of the initiative to be identified. The reason for the statement was the report of the head of the Accounts Chamber Boris Kovalchuk.
